Post Office Retirement Party Invitation

When I’m not doing “serious” design, I’m doing small design projects for friends and family, which I really enjoy. My best friend asked me to create an invitation for her mother’s retirement party. Her mom worked at the post office for 26 years and was looking forward to lots of camping trips. She asked if I could incorporate “Happy Trails” into the invitation so I created camping postage stamps with that phrase. I chose a font that looked hand-written, like you would see on a letter or envelope.

Update 4/17/14

Since I first posted this, I have had several people contact me to see if I could customize this for their use, and the answer is yes! Contact me for details on how I can customize this for your party too. –

Cutting Tutorial

I set up these invitations as 5″x 7″, 2 up on a letter-size page with crop marks and I can also send a jpeg for those who prefer to have it printed at a photo place. There are different ways to cut these out, but my favorite way is to use a cutting mat, X-Acto Knife and a metal ruler. Here is a tutorial on how to do it.

  1. Do you custom design invitations? My father is retiring after 40 (something) years in the post office and I would like something similar to what you did here. Please let me know!

    1. Hi! I actually sell these as a downloadable file that you print yourself. I sent you an email with more details.

  10. Hi Sharon
After 38 years my husband will be retiring from the post office. I love your invitation. Please send me more details on how you work this. He’s not a camper or fisherman. Are there other stamps that you could use? Maybe an ocean scene or hammock pic? Thanks.
